Fear. I fear fear. Even this question is getting me antsy.

Why I believe in Guiides.com?
I was in Iceland and connected with a local who took us on an trek through a volcanic geothermal valley to cook dinner in a remote hot spring at midnight in 24/7 sunlight. An experience out of my wildest dreams. It tainted my views towards big bus tours and all it's local experience over anything for me now.

(Irrational) fear factor:
Wasps. I scream on sight.

Growing up in Chilliwack I've had plenty of opportunities to get outside and enjoy what our local backcountry has to offer. Through these experiences I've been lucky to meet some of the friendliest folks on hiking trails or backcountry roads who never hesitate to provide you with local tips and information to seek out the hidden locations in the area. It was these kinds of interactions that made me believe connecting with people in the outdoors is a worthy experience to share.

Why I believe in Guiides.com?
I made an unplanned trip to Turkey after being in Spain for a few weeks. Not knowing what I was getting myself into I turned to online researching. After not finding any sources, I reached out to Reddit and found an amazing tour guide. He was originally from Canada and now living in Istandbul. He took us around and showed us all the local hotspots and must sees. If it wasn't for a guide I would probably still be wandering around the streets of Turkey.

Death, although I think that's pretty rational

Why I believe in Guiides.com?
I have met so many local outdoor enthusiasts that are capable and willing to share their experiences, but lacked the tools reach an audience. By empowering those individuals, I believe we can open up the joys of the great outdoors to many more people.

(Irrational) fear factor:
Earth worms. They leave me paralyzed.

Why I believe in Guiides.com?
I lived in Barbados for a year and if it weren’t for the kindness (and willingness) of locals to share their world and open their community, it never would have felt like ‘home’; it would have been a long and lonely adventure. Instead I made new friends, rediscovered a love for pilates and had the best fried chicken at Chicken Rita’s. Amazing things happen when you extend and accept a hand.

Favourite outdoor adventures
Hiking to desolate beaches to camp on shore with a huge bon fire, sailing BC inlets, and snowshoeing in powder.

(Irrational) fear factor:
Horror movies, I know they aren’t real but I can’t stand the suspense.

Why I believe in Guiides.com?
Travelled through 20 countries in the last 10 years has taught me that great adventures are created not by the sites you visit but by the personal connections and learning that comes from these experiences. I believe in Guiides b/c it’s not just a place to discover new adventures but an opportunity to meet and learn from other people.

Destinations can be predictable, its the people you meet that make it an adventure.
